Pattern, Order and Replication
Pattern, Order, and Replication investigates the human capacity to detect and interpret patterns in the natural world, in behavior, communication, and daily routines. Our brains are inherently attuned to seek systems and order—a capacity that has evolved in response to sound, movement, and color, forming a connecting force within collective cellular memory. In an era of sensory overload, this innate pattern recognition is continually challenged.
In this watercolor series, the grid serves as an underlying structural framework. The color palette, dominated by blues, evokes sky, water, and landscape as unifying forces of life, while variations in warmth, coolness, and saturation conjure associated emotions and beliefs. Within the grid, squares and lines are grouped, reconfigured, and repeated in pulsing rhythms that radiate, shift, and fragment. Patterns emerge and dissolve, creating visual ambiguity as perception is challenged. Lines begin and end without resolution, inviting the viewer to oscillate between coherence and chaos. As layers multiply, the mind gradually rests in the moment, experiencing the interplay of individual units within the larger composition, where line, color, and pattern intertwine.
